Why We Decided To Buy The Yamaha ef2000is Portable Generator

It was my husband’s idea. I’ve always had this romantic idea of camping you see, and having a generator in a campsite does not correlate with that idea. Besides, I remember the generator my father used to have in the farm and I’m still traumatized by the unbelievably loud noise that used to wake us up early in the morning.

So a generator in a campsite? Big no no.

Anyway, my husband eventually convinced me to check the Yamaha ef2000is in our local shop and I could not believe what I hearrd – I heard nothing!

Seriously, this generator is so quiet you can carry a normal conversation even when it’s on. This was a big thing for me and the quietness of this generator made a big difference in my view about generators. I told my husband that if the generator we buy is as quiet as the Yamaha ef2000is generator, then I might just want to have one.

What We Use This Inverter Generator For

At first, we only needed this for lights. I knew it was a bit of an overkill buying a 2000 watt generator just for lights, but my husband said that once we experienced the comforts of having a generator while camping, we would be taking more stuff that would need some electrical power on our next camping trip. And he was right.

We now use the Yamaha ef2000is to power the following gadgets:

    • As mentioned we use this for the lights.
    • We also use this generator for the crockpot which we use most days during a camping trip.

    • The Yamaha ef2000is also gets used a lot in the morning. We usually don’t run the appliances at the same time. We start with the kettle and then we use either the toaster or the double burner separately.

 

What You Can Use The Yamaha ef2000is Generator

As you can see, we don’t use a lot of electrical appliances (yet) during our camping trip. I know that some people use a lot more.

This is a 2000watt generator, so in most people’s worlds, this is more than enough for a camping holiday :-) . But if your family tends to use more than that at any given time, then you can always go for something with more wattage like the Yamaha EF3000iSE which has 3000 watts or buy the Yamaha 2000is combo package.

Note: When deciding to buy a generator, make sure that you do a power audit of all the appliances that you plan use.

My Husband’s Yamaha ef2000is Generator Review

As I said above, my husband was the one who chose this particular generator. I only had to be convinced that we needed it, so he’s the one who knows the specifics of this generator. This is what he has to say (not verbatim but this is the gist!)

I wanted to buy something cheap, but my research showed that when it comes to generators, cheap usually means that the generator will be

    • very noisy
    • will not last for a long time
    • cannot efficiently power a sensitive device

So I started looking at the Yamaha and the Honda generators which are supposed to be very quiet. After a lot of online research, the Yamaha ef200is sounded like the one we need – and of course, when we saw it in the flesh at the shop, I was wholly convinced it’s the one for us.

After having this generator for the past couple of years, I still love it, I sometimes wish we had two! I really like showing it off to other people in the campsite.

Many other campers have commented on how quiet it is and have even said that they’re going to buy one for their next camping trip, too! Yamaha should be giving me commissions as I’m basically a walking advertisement for the Yamaha ef200is generator.

This is also considerably light. Well, 49 pounds is not THAT light, but it can be realistically transported from your car to where your tent is. So I am extremely happy with it it.

It was our first time to buy a child’s bike and as much as we were on the lookout for the cheapest one, we realized that there were a lot more things to consider than that.

The Height

You don’t need to worry about height if you’re buying from your local store and you have your child with you. We bought the bike online and this was immediately the first thing we had to decide on. We couldn’t depend just on the recommended age for the bike.

When you’re in this very same dilemma, find out what is the recommended leg measurement for the bike and then see if it works for your child.

Here’s how to measurement leg length.

  1. Without any shoes on, get your child to stand against a wall. Mark this height with a line.
  2. Next, get him to sit down with his back against that very same wall. Mark that heigh again.
  3. Measure the distance between the standing height and the sitting height. That’s the leg measurment you need.

Does It Work Well On The Surface You Plan To Use It On?

You will have to read a lot of reviews to find out more about this bike featur. If the bike is going to be used only on tarmac/concrete roads, most bikes for toddlers should do. When we bought ours, we knew that apart from using it on roads, we would be taking the bike a lot in the countryside – so we needed something that could travel well on grass and gravel.

Assembly Time

Many of the toddler bikes you buy online will need to be assembled by you. We’re not very good at that, so we needed something that was quite easy to put together. If the one you like really does take time, then make sure you set enough time to put it together rather than doing it at the last minute or the night before the birthday surprise is due, like we did!

This is a minor consideration but I know that some children will get more excited when the bike comes in a “theme” or color that they like. It’s so much easier to take the bike out when we can all pretend it’s Barbie or Lightning Mcqueen. Gets them in the mood to go out riding with their favorite character. Plus, if the bicycle is going to be a surprise, this design/color consideration is going to be the first thing he/she is going to notice. — and that look of utter happiness from a preschooler is always a gem.

Price

Remember that if this is your child’s first bike, he/she is going to outgrow it. He’ll be moving on for a bigger bike in a couple of years or so. So don’t splurge too much on it. As long as it’s sturdy enough, it’s safe and it runs perfectly well, then you are getting a good buy.

These kits usually say that you can finish the whole project in a day. Realistically, with one person doing the job, I’d say give yourself a weekend or about 24 hours. It won’t be easy with the kids raring to give it a go, of course.

  1. The first thing you need to do is to have a look at all the wooden swing set kits for sale (there are pics of my favorite ones at the end of this article). Know exactly what comes with the kit as each design/product can greatly vary
  2. If the kit you ordered doesn’t come with wood, then as soon as the kit arrives, find out what you need and order them from your local lumberyard
  3. Some of these kits do not come with nails or screws. So go to your local hardware shop and get them. When it comes to nails/screws, order 2x more than what is in the instruction manual as you will most likely need it.
  4. When the wood arrives, cut them per the instruction on the manual. If you buy a wooden swing kit from Swing-n-slide, the wood-cutting instructions are so clear that you will not have any problems with it at all
  5. Once you have all the material necessary, build the swing set away.

Note: Although there have been instances of only one person building this swing set, I recommended getting an assistant or two.

Also, these wooden swing kits that do not come with lumber will eventually cost you about $500 if you include the wood and nails expense. This does not include other add-on expenses like a slide.

I have to admit that there are times I need to be pulled out of the computer to actually take the time to play with the kids, but whenever we start playing and having fun, I know that stopping my work has been all worth it.

I’ve had some very good memories of playing with my children. Here are some of my favorite games to play with kids outside the house. These are all easy to do and you don’t even need one of those expensive kids bounce houses for sale to make it all fun.

1) Anything To Do With Balls – balls – different kinds of balls should be staples in any house with children. Be it playing football, catching, rolling, bouncing, or shooting, balls are always fun to play with.

2) Treasure hunt – Who doesn’t want to go treasure hunting? Anyone from 2 year olds to 10 year olds love looking for treasures. Make sure you vary the difficulty depending on age. For example, with the really little ones, use arrows/paper footprints to direct them to the treasure. Four year olds could follow numbers and the 10 year olds could have a proper treasure hunt out in the woods! (with you to accompany them of course!). We did this once during a camping holiday and it was so much fun. The kids couldn’t stop talking about it.

3) Water Games – This is always great with kids at whatever age. Give the toddlers a little basin and some toys and have fun splashing about with them. And of course, the older kids would just welcome a game of water squirting with you – just be prepared, they will not stop until you’re soaking wet!

4) Denmaking – I have pleasant memories of denmaking in the garden and in the woods with the kids. We know that they love their own little space and I know that sometimes they do want to make a den of their own by themselves, but at times when your help is welcome, then they will be more than happy to include you in their own little world. This is a game we enjoyed when we were kids and one children still love these days even with all the many electronic gadgets and power wheels that they have nowadays.

5) Parlor Games – There are a lot of parlor games that children can really get involved in especially when there are lots of other kids around. Our family’s favorite includes sack race, egg relay and the three-legged race. Such fun even the little ones enjoy it.

6) What Time Is It Mr Fox – A good game to play with the younger kids.

7) Role Playing – I find that young children and grade schoolers love this a lot. Don’t worry if you’re not used to this. They’ll tell you exactly who you are supposed to be and what you need to do or say.

At official testing it took about 45 minutes to put the Power wheels dune racer together. In reality, it can take anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours, depending on how handy you are with these things.

How Good Is The Power Wheels Dune Racer?

The Power wheels Dune Racer is one of the best power wheels in the market right now. It runs extremely well on different surfaces and comes at a very great price too. This is great for climbing slopes, going through sticks, rubble, gravel and sand. And runs just as well on grass and concrete. Great all-around power wheels on both smooth and rugged terrain. It can also run well on about a few inches of snow but not so well on very deep snow.

How Stable Is it?

It sits very low and so the chance of turning over is virtually impossible. It’s very stable. For added safety, get the kids to use a helmet.

How Strong Is it?

The Power wheels Dune Racer is made of metal square tubing frame and is very solid.

The battery

The Power wheels Dune Racer needs 1 12-volt battery to run. It takes about 15 – 20 hours to fully charge the battery for the first time. The battery is advertised to last for about 50 minutes of continues usage, but reviews show it can last from 1 hour – 3 weeks. You can buy a quick-charger at extra cost to charge the battery about half that time or buy an extra battery.

Note: There has been mixed reviews on how long the battery lasts. Remember that this will largely depend on how much you use it and how rough the terrain you’re using it for. Although there are some people who said that the battery lasts up to 3 weeks, most Power wheels dune racer review show that a full battery can run from 1 hour – 6 hours of continuous use.

Usability

Younger children (3 years) will probably have a little problem reaching the pedals or manuevering the Dune racer but some more car-savvy 3-year old kids (who are on the taller side as well) can easily use this power-wheel. If not, they’ll be more than happy to just sit next to the driver (an older brother or sister perhaps?) and enjoy the view.

It has a lower center of gravity and can even run uphill on 3 wheels and still not have any problems (this is not really meant for hills, but many parents have reported that this works very well on slopes too).
